Family-Friendly Reading Plan (Dec 28- Jan 3)

DAY 1 — SUNDAY

Jesus, the Light of the World

Scripture: John 8:12

Focus: Jesus brings clarity, direction, and hope in our darkness.
Prayer: “Lord, shine Your light in my life today.”

— Candle Lighting & Sharing

Light a candle together. Each person shares one way Jesus has brought light or hope into their life this year.

DAY 2 — MONDAY

the light has come

Scripture: isaiah 60:1-3

Focus: God’s glory rises over His people, attracting nations and hearts.
Prayer: “God, help me live as someone who reflects Your glory.”

Glow in the Dark Verse

Write Isaiah 60:1 (“Arise, shine…”) on a card using glow-in-the-dark paint or markers. Hang it in a dark hallway or bedroom as a reminder of God’s light.

DAY 3 — TUESDAY

The light shines in the darkness

Scripture: John 1:1–9

Focus: No darkness—spiritual or emotional—can overcome Christ’s light.
Prayer: “Jesus, illuminate the places in me that need Your truth.”

Activity- Darkness & Light Illustration

Turn off all the lights for 10 seconds. Then light a single candle or flashlight.
Discuss: “How did the light change the room? How does Jesus change our hearts?”

DAY 4 — WEDNESDAY

Walk in the light

Scripture: 1 John 1:5–9

Focus: Walking in God’s light brings honesty, healing, and fellowship.
Prayer: “Father, help me walk in integrity and transparency before You.”

Activity - Walk in the Light Challenge

Take a short family walk after sunset. Talk about what makes it easier to walk when there is light.
Connect it to 1 John 1:7—walking in the light with God and one another.

DAY 5 — THURSDAY

Light to the nations

Scripture: Luke 2:25–32 (Simeon’s prophecy)

Focus: Jesus is God’s salvation for all peoples.
Prayer: “Lord, let Your light reach every nation—starting with my own life.”

Activity - Shine for Someone Else

Each family member chooses one simple act of kindness (a note, a chore, a small gift).
Explain: “This is how we shine the light of Jesus for others.”

DAY 6 — FRIDAY

let your light shine

Scripture: Matthew 5:14–16

Focus: We are called to shine Christ’s light through good works.
Prayer: “Holy Spirit, help my life point others to You.”

Activity - Lantern Craft

Make simple lanterns (paper bags, hole punch, and LED tea lights).
Write “Let your light shine” (Matthew 5:16) on them and place them in a window.

DAY 7 — SATURDAY

Put on the armor of light

Scripture: Romans 13:11–14

Focus: God’s light empowers us to live awake, holy, and prepared.
Prayer: “God, clothe me with Your light and guide my steps.”

Activity - Blessing with Light

Gather in a circle in the evening. Hold candles or flashlights.
Go around and speak a blessing over each person:
“(Name), may the light of Christ shine in you and through you.”
